When conducted meaningfully and genuinely, consultation and engagement provide communities with an opportunity to influence how mining or clean energy projects will affect their region, land and livelihoods.
Engagement can create genuine relationships between the community, companies and other actors and is essential to creating a mining sector that is transparent, accountable, participatory, gender-sensitive, fair and safe.
This guide helps community members in Victoria understand how mining proposals are approved, their rights, and how to have their say effectively. It includes links to resources that people in Victoria will need.
This toolkit provides information useful to community members and groups affected by mining projects, including Traditional Owners and First Nations peoples and organisations, local landholders and residents, local councils, environmental groups and other community organisations. While this Toolkit focuses on the Victoria, Australia context, it will be informative for mining affected communities globally.
