Latin America and Caribbean Peer Learning Event – Quito (10–11 February)
The Latin America and Caribbean Peer Learning Event took place in Quito on 10–11 February, bringing together civil society partners for two days of practical exchange and regional collaboration.
This event was the third in a four-region peer learning series led by the Accountable Mining Programme and coordinated with civil society organisations and Transparency International chapters across East Asia and the Pacific, Eurasia, and Latin America. The series aims to strengthen coordination among civil society partners, share lessons and challenges related to the 2023 EITI Standard, and align regional priorities under the Support for Citizen Engagement for Accountability and Transparency in the Extractive Sector project, funded by the EGPS Multi-Donor Trust Fund and managed by the World Bank.
Peer learning and practical exchange (Day 1)
On Day 1, 12 civil society representatives engaged in Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative implementation at the national level, representing 12 countries, came together for peer learning and hands-on exchange. Participants shared what is working, where challenges remain, and where stronger coordination is needed to use the 2023 EITI Standard to strengthen accountability.
Key thematic areas included civic space, gender equity, anti-corruption, and the energy transition. Participants also worked with social accountability tools, including the MACRA Tool, and explored how EITI implementation can be better aligned with regional priorities.
Multi-stakeholder dialogue (Day 2)
Day 2 expanded the conversation beyond civil society, bringing together more than 80 participants from government, industry, international organisations, and civil society in Ecuador. The dialogue focused on gender and anti-corruption, and explored how the Escazú Agreement can help reinforce transparency and public participation. The exchange highlighted practical approaches to strengthening integrity and accountability in the extractive sector.
The organisers extend sincere thanks to the TI Ecuador team for their outstanding support in logistics, coordination, and facilitation, which created a collaborative and welcoming space for participants.
The final event in the regional series will take place in Lusaka on 25–26 February 2026, led by Transparency International Zambia with support from the Accountable Mining Programme.
